Knots Landing- one of the longest running TV series in America

The American prime time TV show or soap opera that was telecast by BCS TV network from December 27, 1979 to May 13, 1993 was Knots Landing. The opera was positioned in the coastal suburb area of Los Angeles in California.

The show was filmed on the basis of lifestyle of four married couple. They lived in the area known as cul-de-sac, Seaview Circle. The message of the drama was to take sense from the final relationship of a person that means the marriage. To make the story more interesting the director added the social storylines like rape, killing, kidnapping, corporate conspiracy and criminal inquiries, drug smuggling, assassinations etc.

At the finishing time the total numbers of episodes were huge and it became the second largest American TV show after Gunsmoke and tied with Bonaza. The creator of Knots Landing was David Jacobs. He and the producer Michael Filerman together with built the series. But at first the concept was not accepted by the CBS- TV network in 1977 and they rejected it by advising that to make something more narrative type series. The director then made the series of Dallas and it was accepted by the TV CBS. After becoming super hit, David decided to remake the Knots Landing.

This time he succeeded to agree the CBS to telecast the series. It was inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s heart touching film, Scenes from a Marriage. At the starting the Knots Landing was not so popular and it was placed in the position of 12 by rating 20.8 during the year 1983- 1984. Then in 1984- 1985 the rating was 20.0 and the position was decreased from 12 to 9. The popularity of the series was increased and the rating was also far better than Dallas. By replacing the old actors by new actors and the dramatic storylines made the series more soap opera like TV series. And huge impact was seen in the audience.

In the year 1997 most of the casts of the series Knots Landing gathered to make a two part miniseries of the Knots Landing. They named it Knots Landing: Back to the Cul-de-Sac. They grouped together again in 2005 to make the non- fiction special Knots Landing Reunion: Together Again.
